I stepped in at the last minute to photograph this wedding because the previous photographer was unfortunately ill, but I’m so glad I did! Kathryn and Darren are huge fun, and don’t take themselves too seriously which I love.
Kathryn got ready at her parents’ house in Bucklands Beach, and then caught the ferry to Waiheke where the wedding was held at the Mudbrick Vineyard and Restaurant. Darren got ready at Lavender Hill – it’s the first time I’ve been there and it was stunning – hoping to sneak Nat away there at some point…
Love this new iPhone! These are a few location scouting images I’ve just taken for a wedding I’m photographing tomorrow – quick bit of Photoshop on the iPhone and you get these!
Well, this wedding on a hazy Saturday in November was just about the most fun I’ve ever had doing my job! The location (Tauranga Bay near Westport on New Zealand’s South Island) was STUNNING, and the people were fabulous. We had a bit of west coast weather but it kept dry for the ceremony and the sun even came out later in the day.
I tried a slightly more photojournalistic approach for this wedding, and I’m very proud of the results.
I’ve got to say a big thank you to all of the family and friends of Ben and Becs, who made me feel so welcome and looked after me the whole time I was there.
Most especially though Ben and Becs themselves were wonderful on the day. Becs wore a vintage 1930s gown made in New York during the hollywood glam era, and Ben just…er…wore Ben stuff – they both looked fantastic!
I’ve decided to show you what a complete album of mine can look like – I hope the new viewing thingie works! Enjoy the photographs – they’re a very special set of images to me personally so I hope you like them!
A couple of years ago I photographed Kate’s brother’s wedding, and I was honoured to be asked to photograph hers too. Kate and Adam were married at St Andrew’s Church in Mission Bay, and then went on to their reception at Duders at Cheltenham.
Days like this are what wedding photographers dream of – good weather, a stunning bride and a great looking groom, plus a bridal party and family that are willing to have a bit of fun.
Thanks to Adam and Kate I had a blast – I hope that comes across in the pictures. The two slideshows below show what we produced on the day – the preparation and ceremony first, and then the guests and bridal party.
Been thinking about what to do over the winter this year (not that winters are dead or anything – they’re just a good time to get some of the other stuff done that a business demands). So…I’m thinking about organising some training. If any of you photographers out there that read this have anything specific that you’d like to get skilled up on, then fire me an email (gary@loveimages.co.nz) and I’ll be happy to listen to your views on the matter. Once I have a firm view as to what people need then I’ll get back to you all with a plan…
Glenn and Gisele got married at Castaways just outside Waiuku on the 9th January. It was another scorching day, and a challenging one for us wedding photographers! Auckland’s west coast beaches are stunningly beautiful, but the sun comes in very powerfully from both the sky and from it’s reflection off the sea, so it’s always fun trying to keep it under control!
Gisele looked beautiful, with a long, flowing veil that was perfect for catching the breeze coming up from the beach below. Her family is from Rarotonga, and I’ve always found pacific island families to be wonderful, accommodating people and today was no exception. Her mum and sister were as proud as it’s possible to be, and both were emotional during the ceremony which was lovely..!
Glenn is a really good bloke, and was a joy to photograph. He was also in charge of making sure that Gisele’s son William was kept on the straight and narrow (not that he needed much direction – he’s a great kid) and both the jobs of groom and William-minder were done with aplomb!
A couple of weekends ago I was lucky enough to be asked to photograph a friend’s birthday party. Sarah is someone we have known for a while through Nat’s hockey, and she’s a wonderful person – very successful, very direct but totally lovely!
She had her swimming pool decked out with huge floating bunches of hydrangeas which looked spectacular, and the hedge around the pool area was covered in fairy lights. The dining table, which was decorated by Sarah’s friend Margie, looked very special too.
About 15 minutes before everyone was due to sit down for dinner the heavens opened (it had been a beautiful day and so no-one was expecting rain!) and all of the guys in their tuxedos ran around getting soaked putting up a cover over the table.
Anyway, the evening eventually got back on track and I believe that it ended up being a 3am finish – good on ya girl! A real trooper…
Below is a slideshow of some of the images from the evening.
On Saturday I’m photographing Mark and Emma’s wedding in Rotorua, and last week I headed down to Mt Maunganui take some engagement photographs for them. Here are a few of my favourites….
Well, it’s been a while since I last posted here, mainly due to a couple of major computer crashes that wiped an enormous amount of data and put me about 3 weeks behind schedule. Thankfully things are now back to normal, andy stress levels are starting to reduce too, so it’s time to start posting again… Yey!
I thought I’d get the ball rolling with a link to a set of slideshows from a wedding I shot a few weeks ago. Brenda and Umesh got married up at Ascension Vineyard near Matakana, about an hour north of Auckland. It was a fabulous day all round – the weather held out perfectly, the two families were wonderful and of course Brenda and Umesh looked fabulous!
So, the slideshows are below. Click on the links, sit back and enjoy…!
Very disappointed in the Fair Go programme last night. It presented photographers as a bunch of money grabbing sleazebags preying on unsuspecting mothers in shopping malls so that we can put pictures of their children all over the web.
It was some of the most unbalanced reporting I’ve ever seen. In my role as the National Director of Portrait Photography for the NZIPP I am involved in producing a response to the programme at the moment, but in the meantime the NZIPP web site has produced an FAQ page on this issue – click here.
